Kansas City scored five in the first inning and did not score again after the fourth. Eury Pérez needed 102 pitches to get through 4.2 innings, tagged for six runs on nine hits, and Salvador Perez's two-run homer accounted for two of the five first-inning runs. Jose Cuas came in for the sixth and left with the lead gone, charged with two earned in a third of an inning. Calvin Faucher needed six pitches to close the ninth, and the Royals' offense had been silent since Carter Jensen's second home run in the fourth.
