For five innings nobody scored. Sonny Gray gave up four hits over six, struck out three, walked one, and left with a 1-0 lead. The run came in the sixth: Jarren Duran scored on Andruw Monasterio's line single to left on a first-pitch cutter. Foster Griffin took the loss despite seven strikeouts over six innings — ten hits, one earned, and no room for error. Cleveland had five hits and left six. Boston put twelve on the board and left eleven. Tyron Guerrero struck out the side in the seventh. Aroldis Chapman needed twelve pitches for the save: three up, three down, three strikeouts. Cleveland never got a runner to third.
