The Yankees had a one-run lead when Cam Schlittler handed the ball over after six innings of three-hit baseball, and they still had it when Alex Lange came in for the eighth. Vinnie Pasquantino's second home run of the season tied it, a fly ball to right on a 97.4 mph sinker, and the Royals had the run they needed from the man who'd already driven in their first on a groundout. Lange gave up two earned runs on two hits, the second of which was Ryan McMahon's first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left on a 90.6 mph changeup. Camilo Doval got the win despite giving up Pasquantino's homer, and David Bednar needed seventeen pitches to strike out two and close it. Kansas City managed four hits.
