Curtis Mead's three-run homer off Daniel Lynch IV in the seventh turned a one-run deficit into the final margin, and it came one inning after the Royals had tied the game. Lynch faced seven hitters and recorded three outs, allowing three earned. Foster Griffin gave Washington six innings of one-run ball and left in line for a loss he never received. Kansas City outhit Washington 10-6 and left nine on base, but two innings decided it.
