Thomas's line drive to left scored Michael Massey, and Carter Jensen's sharp single in the fifth added what proved to be the winning run. Yandy Díaz doubled in Richie Palacios in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to 2-1, but Tampa Bay put five men on base after that and none scored. Michael Wacha went seven innings, struck out five, and needed 99 pitches to get there. Alex Lange threw fifteen in the ninth — ten strikes — and the Rays went down in order.
