Atlanta left 11 men on base — six more than St. Louis — and scored three runs on six hits, which is how you lose a game you played evenly. Nathan Church's three-run homer in the fourth, on an 81.9 mph changeup, turned a 2-1 deficit into a lead the Cardinals kept. Nelson Velázquez had tied it one batter earlier with a 444-foot home run, his third. Matthew Liberatore struck out nine in five innings but walked four, and Jorge Mateo scored twice for Atlanta, which was most of what they had.
