Five innings of one-hit ball from Tyler Phillips — four strikeouts, two walks, sixty-nine pitches — and Graham Pauley's bat built the lead. Pauley hit his second homer of the year in the second, a two-run shot to right, then tripled home two more in the seventh for his first three-bagger of the season. Kyle Stowers added his seventeenth, a blast measured at 110.4 mph and 412 feet. Randy Dobnak took the loss for Kansas City — six innings, seven hits, six earned — and Nick Loftin's solo homer in the ninth was the last run the Royals could find.
