Gurriel's drive to center in the eleventh scored Ildemaro Vargas and gave Arizona its third lead of the night — the first triple of his season, and the one that finally held. Tim Tawa had tied it twice for the Diamondbacks, once with his 10th home run in the ninth and again with an RBI single in the tenth, and Kansas City answered both times before running out of replies. Michael Wacha gave the Royals six shutout innings on 93 pitches and left with nothing to show for it. Anthony Gose took the loss in the eleventh, and the Royals left eleven on base across eleven innings.
