A 3-1 deficit in the eighth became a one-run win when Trevor Story lined a pitch 394 feet to left-center with two men on. Sonny Gray had given Boston six and a third, and Cody Bradford had given Texas four and a third of scoreless relief before the bullpen handed it back. Jakob Junis faced one hitter and walked him; Jacob Latz gave up the homer two batters later. Josh Jung's first-inning solo shot — his 10th — had been the opening answer, and Texas never scored again after the second.
