Jonny DeLuca's two-run double and Chandler Simpson's two-run single put Tampa up four before Boston came to bat, and Griffin Jax spent five innings making sure it held. Jax allowed three hits and no runs. Patrick Sandoval went seven full innings for Boston — 94 pitches, 69 strikes — but five runs crossed on his line. Victor Mesa Jr.'s home run in the 4th was the only scoring after the first; Trevor Story's solo shot in the 9th kept the Red Sox from being shut out.
