Luis Gil held Boston to two hits over six and a third and never gave up a run. Giancarlo Stanton hit his third home run of the year in the second on an 85.8 mph slider, then came back in the sixth and doubled on an 80.6 mph changeup to score Aaron Judge and Amed Rosario — three RBI on two swings. Connelly Early threw 92 pitches in five and a third and took the loss. Boston managed four hits and left seven on. David Bednar needed 19 pitches for a clean ninth, and a club that scored zero does not get many chances to argue with the line.
