Zack Wheeler and Dylan Cease each threw six innings of one-run baseball and struck out a combined sixteen hitters, and then neither figured in how it ended. Bryson Stott doubled home Bryce Harper in the 9th to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead, and Jhoan Duran came on to close it. He did not retire a batter. Three hits and two runs later, Brandon Valenzuela lined a 99.9 mph fastball into left field and Daulton Varsho scored the winning run. Duran threw eight pitches — six strikes — and left with the loss in an outing that produced no outs.
