Four errors is not a card you survive at Fenway. Cam Schlittler struck out nine across five innings and did not allow an earned run, but the defense behind him kept handing Boston extra outs — all four runs against him were unearned. Connelly Early went six innings with nine strikeouts of his own, allowing two earned, and left with the lead. Caleb Durbin's two-run homer in the fifth, a 94.6 mph cutter met at 3-2, put Boston ahead to stay, and Aroldis Chapman threw 14 of 23 pitches for strikes in the ninth to close it.
