Paul Goldschmidt's fourth-inning home run — a 94 mph sinker at 2-0 — was the entire offense, and Schlittler made it hold up. He walked nobody in 99 pitches, struck out twelve, and handed the ball to Brent Headrick with one out in the eighth. Jesús Luzardo matched him for seven innings and lost, because he left one sinker in the wrong place to the wrong hitter. David Bednar needed nine pitches to finish the ninth. Philadelphia had four hits and never scored.
