Seth Johnson came in for the eighth and faced four hitters without recording an out — three hits and a walk, four runs on eleven pitches. José Suarez followed and gave up four more, including a three-run homer to Junior Caminero, his 34th. Jacob Lopez had given the Athletics seven innings on 93 pitches with five strikeouts and left with the lead, and Freddy Peralta had thrown six innings of three-run ball and left trailing. Lopez's start was gone with them.
