Jack Perkins had given up one hit through five — Soderstrom's first-inning home run — and then the sixth came apart. José Suarez entered and gave up two hits, including an 82.2 mph slider on a 2-0 count that Rafaela put into the left-center seats with the bases loaded, and a 1-0 game was 4-1. Payton Tolle struck out seven in 5.1 innings for the win, Jonah Heim added a solo shot, and Aroldis Chapman struck out the side on 24 pitches to close it. Perkins took the loss with one hit allowed in 5.2 innings — the pitch that lost the game was not his.
