Andrew Painter went 5.1 innings with six strikeouts on 93 pitches and left with a lead that Alan Rangel nearly handed back — two runs in the sixth, then Sosa's 110.1 mph double in the eighth that scored Marsh and Crawford and made it 6-3. St. Louis answered with three in the bottom half on consecutive hits from Burleson, Winn, and Fermín, and the tying run reached second before Jonathan Bowlan came in and struck out the last man on ten pitches. The Cardinals committed two errors; the Phillies committed none.
