The eighth inning lasted 20 pitches for Tyron Guerrero, and he did not retire a hitter. Three hits, two walks, five runs — Myles Straw's two-run double to left was the blow that broke it open, and by the time Alec Gamboa got the first out, Toronto had scored five. Ranger Suarez had given Boston five innings of one-run ball, and Willson Contreras's solo homer in the fifth was the only damage against José Soriano, who struck out four across six innings. The Red Sox pushed two across in the ninth on Caleb Durbin's RBI single and Jarren Duran's double, and that was as close as they got.
