Wilyer Abreu's home run in the second left the bat at 110.8 mph and traveled 420 feet to right on a 96.8 mph fastball. It was the only run Jared Jones allowed in five innings, and it was enough. Sonny Gray went seven innings, gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out seven. The Pirates never scored. The Red Sox put the game away in the ninth against Luke Weaver, who gave up four hits and three runs. Andruw Monasterio's two-run double on an 87.9 mph changeup at 3-2 was the hit that separated the game. Aroldis Chapman worked the ninth and struck out two. The Pirates stranded five and committed an error. Gray threw 86 pitches, 56 for strikes.
